Exclusive waters untouched by the fishing industry; there are so many fish in this river that it is almost too much…
The average weight of the fish is high compared to other famous rivers on the west coast. This is undoubtedly due to the lack of net fishing that sometimes occurs in other rivers.
We have tested the river where we fished from flood to flood. Within nine hours (breaks included) three persons caught around 150 trout weighing up to 3.5 kilos. The main share was caught using flies.
Several times we saw larger fish standing two by two, which enables trophy fishing for particular fish. Elsewhere trout were packed by the hundreds waiting to go to the breeding grounds. We are talking about waters as virgin-like as can be in Greenland today without too large distances makes it unattainable.
The area:
The area is a delta surrounded by mountains. In August there are plenty of opportunities for mushroom gathering, and if you are lucky you can buy fresh reindeer meet from the hunters that roam the valley. It is rather easy to wander up the river. Thus you are able to explore the river and to fish for fresh fish all day.
The concept:
This river is best suited for smaller groups of four and a courier. The group arrives via helicopter and a tent camp is erected by joint effort on an already chosen spot.
We advocate two x two person tents and an individual tent for the guide. The tent camp will be the starting point of the fishery the entire stay. The guide will point out the best fishing grounds, show the best methods, and run the camp.
Cooking is by joint effort and parts of the menu are fish.
The number of groups is restricted to a maximum of three per season.
Tackle for the trip:
Tent, personal cooking utensils, pad and sleeping bag.
Fishing tackle:
Fly-fishing pole class 4-5. Flies of different sizes and colours. Black flies with red behinds fish very well.
Dry fly-fishing is obvious.
Spin ultra light with spins from size 0 to 2. red colours fish very well.
Season:
August and the first half of September.
Group trips are booked on demand.
The trip includes:
- Helicopter to the river (return ticket)
- Provisioning (freeze-dried food and fresh fish)
